Hello. Here's the part where I would normally say I'm still alive, but unfortunately I am dead. Sorry.

I'll probably be alive again in a few days or so. But in the meantime here are two assignments I finished recently at Ringling. A Push Pull animation, meant to show a character dealing with force, and a 1 minute animatic.

May 7th, 2010: Large Abstract Drawing, Chase Reprisal, and Still Life

Click on the image to get a bigger picture. It's been a pain trying to upload this big enough to see.. the actual size of the drawing is 85 x 6 inches. All done in sharpie.

I managed to upload a larger version of the piece here if anyone is interested seeing it closer to full size (still not that close). I don't use DA too often but you can check out some of the other stuff on there too.

And this is something I put together using some of my backgrounds from my Chase animation.

And finally, my final project for sophomore year of Computer Animation: a still life that we had to texture/light. My depth of field kinda blurs out all the hard work I put into the bumps and textures, but I don't have time to change it now. Don't have access to the labs now that I'm in New Jersey :)

I am now enjoying the free time that the summer brings. A break well needed :)

April 2010: Sit/Stand Project Done!

Haven't updated in a while. Mostly because I've been spending that last 2 months making something that is 15 seconds long! I am very happy with how it turned out however. Magical experience!

I am especially happy with how the lighting and rendering came out. It really added a lot to the piece.

The other thing I have done recently is my subjective animatic for my Concept class, which also turned out fantastic! It's basically a full animation, and almost got into Best of Ringling. Unfortunately, Ringling doesn't accept Concept work into Best of Ringling (despite that I almost got in anyway). Oh well, maybe next time :)

Next up is the Cemetary assignment. Much easier than the Sit/Stand. Just have to set dress a Cemetary scene, light it, move the camera around, render it, and composite it! Looking forward to some relaxation time :)

Simple Poly Update: Textures!

Here are a few pics of my Simple Poly character, now fully textured. He's also fully rigged now, and you will soon see some animation :)

The textures still need a little work in a few areas, but they're pretty awesome. I even have little tiny pictures in the actual film (not gonna tell you what they are).

(Click on the thumbnails to see the larger images, and also to see them without the black background. It is much easier to see the character with a white background)

Lanigan Update 11/14/09: Sophmore Year, First Semester!

Hello everyone! I'm not dead yet. Work's been tough, life's been tough, most of the food I've been eating's been tough, but I'm still kicking and will continue to kick.

I have done a mountain of stuff since my last post on this site, and I shall post it now.

First off, Computer Animation!

As most of you probably know, I'm a Computer Animation major at Ringling College.. but I haven't posted any real computer animation yet. Well, this semester I actually started computer animating, and boy has it been a fun (and tough) experience so far. I'm definitely liking the field so far and I'm doing what I love. Hopefully the school won't suck that enjoyment out of me completely throughout the next few years :)

1. Primitive Theatre assignment:

This is the biggest assignment I've done for Computer Animation so far. We had to come up with a story, design a character made of simple shapes, model the character out of nurbs, rig the character, and then animate the character for 10 beautiful seconds. We added sound to them as well. I'm quite happy how well it turned out and it was a great experience.

2. Ball Bounce Assignment:

This was actually my first computer animation at Ringling. It features an inanimate ball and a self-motivated ball interacting with each other. It was a nice introduction to Maya's intimidating interface and helped me get the hang of things.

3. Simple Poly Assignment:

So those are my first two assignments for CA. So what does the future have in store for me, you ask? Well, more character animation of course! My next assignment is a Simple Poly character, featuring a character with a head, legs, and overlapping action (no arms though) modeled out of polygons. I chose to make my character a film reel, with his legs made out of actual film, as well as the thing sticking out the top of his head.

He look's pretty darn cute without his tin on as well.
And here he is doing a kung fu kick because I can. I added a really quick rig and binded it without weights or anything, but the pose is cool :)
Of course, he will make more sense once I add on the textures and make the thing jetting out of his head look like floppy film.

We will be animating this character doing a walk cycle, a body turn, and a jump. You will being seeing much more of him soon!

Now onto another form of animation...

Traditional Animation!

Pantomime Assignment

Here we had to animate a character interacting with a prop on stage. Here I have George the weightlifter lifting a weight, then smelling his icky armpits and passing out. Good times.

Miscellaneous!

Other than CA and TA, I do have some stuff from my Concept class. We've been studying film language and making storyboards and animatics. Pretty spiffy. I'll post this animatic.

(The raven picks up a potted plant at the end and attacks the guy with it... It makes sense if you know the assignment :P)

Character Turnaround: Agent B-4!

Delving deeper into my Traditional Animation course, I am getting to the very interesting aspects. This is my first character turnaround. He is a beaver and his name is Agent B-4! (get it? B-4... Bea-ver... ah forget it)

Hello everyone. I was required to make a blog in order to post something for a school assignment, but I've decided that I might as well go all out with this.

I am a student at Ringling College of Art and Design majoring in computer animation (the school is known for it's prestigious animation program). I am just starting with computer animation, but I've had plenty of experience with other art forms. I come from a family of artists. My brother is a senior at NYU majoring in film. My mother is an art school graduate who is now an art dealer, selling fine artwork and antiques at auction houses and on ebay. My father -being the odd one out- is a culinary chef (but hey that's still artistic).

I will use this blog to display my artwork and animations, as well as talk about the arts. Fine art, music, film and philosophy are things I greatly enjoy to blab on about. It seems like a blog would be a fine place to blab.

Oh yeah, I like retro video games too. Give me some R-Type and I'll be amused for hours.
